BX Downtown - Brussels

BX Downtown opened recently on Rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains, one block west of the Bourse (the old stock exchange) in the Sainte-Catherine corner of the Pentagon. Four-minute walk to Grand Place, three to Dansaert's bars, eight to Gare Centrale if you're rolling a suitcase.

The hostel's calling card is the pod format: curtained bunks with a reading light, private USB socket, internal coat hook, and an in-bed luggage locker large enough for a 55L backpack. No one else's feet in your face at 3am. Bathroom blocks are shared but sized for the room capacity, and reviewers across 25+ countries mention the shower pressure and temperature stability — a telling detail because Brussels hostels routinely fail on shower flow.

Common areas are on the smaller side — one ground-floor lounge with a breakfast counter, one co-working-ish table by reception. It's not a party hostel and doesn't pretend to be. Staff run a daily check-in ritual with tips for the day, but there's no hostel bar and no pub crawl meet-up. If you want a social dorm, look elsewhere; if you want a clean pod, a hot shower, and doorstep access to the Grand Place circuit, this is the Brussels winner at this price.
