Hostel FM

Hostel FM is the most personal hostel in Mostar — four rooms, one family, twelve minutes uphill from Stari Most through the quiet streets of Cernica. Martina runs the front door, the breakfast and the rooftop. The location is a deliberate trade-off: you walk fifteen minutes to the bridge instead of five, but you get the side of Mostar tourists rarely see — bakeries that don't have English signs, kids playing football in the dead-end street, the morning call to prayer at Tabačica Mosque carrying through the hills.

The building is a Bosnian three-storey family house, the upper floor converted into the hostel. Two private doubles, one private triple, and a single 4-bed female-only dorm. Every room has air-conditioning (essential), private in-room bathrooms (no floor bathrooms anywhere), thick walls and stone construction that keeps the rooms cool and quiet. Wi-Fi reaches every room.

The rooftop is the social anchor — south-facing, six chairs, a wooden table, a small grill that Martina fires up two evenings a week for an unannounced shared dinner (5 EUR per guest, you opt in at breakfast). It's the kind of moment guests describe when they say this hostel feels like staying with a family rather than booking a bed.

Who this is for: solo female travellers who specifically want a 4-bed female dorm with an in-room bathroom, couples who want a private double under 50 EUR, and any traveller who values host-relationship over location score. Who it's not for: anyone whose plan is two nights of bar-crawling — Cernica is residential and the walk back from the Old Town at 1am is uphill and dim.
