Hostel Hercegovina
The closest 9+/10 hostel to Stari Most — three minutes from the bridge on Trg 1 Maj, with a small upper terrace looking onto the orange tiles of the bazaar.
Hostel Hercegovina is a 9.0/10 hostel right on Trg 1 Maj, the small square at the eastern edge of Kujundžiluk bazaar. Three minutes on foot to Stari Most, four to Karadjozbeg Mosque, six to the bus station — the most central 9+/10 hostel in town. Owner Ranko runs the front desk, the daily Herzegovina tour and the upper terrace.
Hostel Hercegovina is at Trg 1 Maj 11 — a small triangular square on the eastern edge of the Stari Grad bazaar. The location is the differentiator: three minutes on foot to Stari Most through the bazaar, two minutes to the daily call to prayer at Karadjozbeg Mosque, four minutes to Tima-Irma for ćevapi. There is no closer 9+/10 hostel to the bridge; you trade quiet for proximity, and in summer the square outside doesn't go fully quiet until 1am.
The building is a four-storey Bosnian house, the family living on the ground floor and the hostel occupying the upper three. Eight rooms — two mixed dorms (4 and 6-bed), four private doubles, two private triples. Most have in-room bathrooms; the 6-bed dorm shares one with the 4-bed dorm next door. Air-conditioning is in every room and is the AC that keeps you sane in July. The upper terrace seats eight, faces south-west toward the river canyon, and gets the late afternoon sun.
Owner Ranko runs the daily Herzegovina day tour at 30 EUR — the same Blagaj-Kravice-Pocitelj loop as Hostel Miran or David, with his cousin's nine-seat van. Ranko himself runs the bookings desk and is conversational in English, German and Italian. The breakfast is served on the terrace from 8 until 10:30 — homemade bread from Pekara MM, ajvar, eggs to order, Bosnian coffee.
Who this is for: travellers who want to be three minutes from Stari Most rather than seven, and who don't mind the bazaar background hum until late evening. Who it's not for: light sleepers in summer (the square below carries voices to the front rooms) and anyone wanting a deeper garden — the upper terrace seats eight, and that's the social space.

“We liked everything. The owner was very friendly and helped us out after a long bus ride from Split. The location is unbeatable, three minutes to Stari Most. The terrace at sunset was the highlight of our Mostar evening.”
“We really loved it! The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. They greeted us with rakija and a map of the city. The day tour to Blagaj and Kravice was excellent value at 25 EUR cash.”
“Ranko speaks fluent German which made checkin very easy. The dorm was clean, AC worked perfectly, and the bathroom shared between the two dorms was always available. The terrace breakfast view is a great way to start the day.”
