HI Hostel Pula sits on Ulica Verudella, on the Verudela peninsula 3km south of the Old Town. The whole pitch is the location: the door opens onto the rocky shore, the water is genuinely swimmable, and Verudela's main beach strip (Hawaii beach, Ambrela) is a 5-minute walk away.
The building is 1970s tourism architecture — not pretty from the outside, functional inside. Dorms are basic but clean: bunk beds, AC, shared bathrooms on the floor, a few rooms with private en-suite. Breakfast is included in the rate (continental: bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, coffee). The on-site restaurant means you can eat lunch and dinner without leaving — convenient on hot days when the walk back to town feels long. Table tennis in the shared lounge, a terrace with sea view, and the rocky shore right there for snorkeling.
The move with this hostel is to use it as a beach base for 2-4 days, focusing on swimming, snorkeling, and minimal Old Town visits. The 30-minute lungomare walk to town is genuinely scenic (along the coast) and bus 2 takes 12 minutes if you don't want to walk. Skip if you want to be in the Old Town for nightlife; pick this if you want the cheapest beachfront in Pula and breakfast taken care of.
