Hostel Pipištrelo sits on Flaciusova ulica, a quiet residential street five minutes off the main waterfront promenade and eight minutes from the Roman Arena. It's a small independent place run by a local team, not a chain, and the building has the lived-in feel of an old Pula apartment block: parquet floors, a courtyard, hand-painted signage, the occasional cat sleeping on the staircase.
Rooms are simple but comfortable. Air-conditioning in every room, sockets near each bed, lockers in the dorms, ensuite bathrooms in the privates and clean shared bathrooms on the dorm floor. Sea-view rooms on the top floor look across the harbor toward Verudela peninsula, and the kitchen is properly equipped (stovetop, fridge, full kitchenware) so you can self-cater after a market run to Tržnica.
The move with this hostel is to use it as a base for old-town walking. You're 8 minutes to the Arena, 10 to the Forum and Sergii Arch, 4 minutes to the harbor promenade, and 12 minutes to the bus station for day-trips to Rovinj or the Brijuni boat. Beach access is bus 2 or 3 (10-15 min) to Verudela; the rocky swimming spots at Stoja are a 20-minute bike ride and the hostel rents bikes.
