CheapSleep occupies a converted 1960s commercial building on Sturenkatu in Vallila, the bridge district between Kallio and Pasila. The location is the value lever: 8 minutes by bus to Central Station, 12 minutes' walk to the Helsinginkatu bar grid in Kallio, 5 minutes to Park Dallapé and the Vallila community sauna. You give up the centre-of-everything address that Aikatalo or The Yard get, you get back 12-18 EUR a night.

Dorms range from 4-bed mixed to 12-bed budget rooms, and a chunk of the inventory is private twins and family rooms with en-suite bathrooms — useful for couples who don't want a Kallio bar-scene crowd. Beds have free under-bunk lockers (bring a padlock or buy one for 3 EUR) and reading lights. Kitchens are large, fully equipped, with two dining areas that fit 30 people at a stretch.

The bar is the social engine: happy hour 19:00-21:00 with 4 EUR pints, regular pub-quiz nights on Wednesdays, board-game evenings on Sundays, occasional movie nights in the lounge, and a temporary-art-gallery wall that rotates monthly with local Vallila artists. There's no organized pub crawl; the bar itself is the pub crawl, and the Kallio scene is a 12-minute walk away.

Reception is 24-hour, which removes the late-arrival problem most Helsinki hostels have, and the in-house mini-supermarket sells beer, snacks, and basic toiletries until 23:00. Bring earplugs if you're booking a 10- or 12-bed dorm — soundproofing is good but not magic, and the bar runs until 01:00 on weekends.
