Our Honest Take
From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice
Inn Tourist is the grown-up sibling of Sky Hostel — same building, same Sörnäinen view, but with a 24-hour reception, included slippers, an airport shuttle, and a slightly older 30-something demographic. Pay 8 EUR more a night than Sky, get someone at the desk when you arrive, family-room option for parents traveling with kids under 12, and a kitchenette in every room so you don't queue for the kettle in the morning. Compared to Aikatalo (more central, more boutique-feeling) it loses on location but wins on price and service depth. Pick it for a quiet Helsinki stay with practical add-ons; skip it if you want bar nights, social events, or a centre-of-Esplanadi address.
🎯 Insider Tips
- 1Book the airport shuttle (18 EUR) at the same time as the room — it's not always available on arrival day, especially Sunday-night flights. The hostel runs it from Helsinki Airport on a per-shuttle basis, not on demand.
- 2Request a south-facing private room or the 4-bed sea-view dorm — north-facing rooms see only the Pasila rail yard, no sea view despite the marketing photos.
- 3The Thursday 11:00 walking tour is free, lasts 90 minutes, and covers Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral and Market Square — better than self-guiding for a first-day orientation.
- 4Building is dry above the ground floor (no alcohol in dorms or common areas). The K-Market across the road is open until 23:00 if you want a Long Drink to take to the Hakaniemi bench-park.
🔥 Why We Love It
24-hour front desk — no late-arrival cut-off
Airport shuttle 18 EUR door-to-door (book at booking)
Every room has fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee machine
Family rooms sleeping 4 with kitchenette — rare in central Helsinki
9th-floor sea view from south-facing privates over Kruunuhaka
📖 The Full Story
Inn Tourist Hostel occupies the 9th floor of the same tower at Haapanieminkatu 7-9B in Sörnäinen, two floors below Sky Hostel. The two hostels share the building but run independently, and Inn Tourist's pricing reflects the more complete service: a 24-hour front desk, an airport shuttle for 18 EUR a head (book at booking), included slippers and towels, and a full hostel-in-the-classic-sense feel rather than self-check-in budget.
Rooms split between dorms (4-bed, 6-bed mixed and female-only), private twins, doubles with shared bathroom, and family rooms sleeping 4 with kitchenette. The 9th-floor sea view runs across the south-facing private rooms toward Kruunuhaka and the harbour. North-facing rooms see the rail yard. Every room has a fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee machine — useful if you'd rather not haul down to the shared kitchen for breakfast.
Common space is the kitchen-and-dining lounge: induction hobs, a 12-seat dining table, board games stacked on a side shelf, and a vending machine for soft drinks. There's no bar (Sky doesn't have one either; the building is dry above ground floor) and no organized social programme — but the staff run a free walking tour to the Helsinki Cathedral, Senate Square, and Kauppatori on Thursdays at 11:00.
Airport access is the practical USP: the hostel runs a private shuttle that's 18 EUR door-to-door, faster and cheaper for two travelers than Uber, slower than the I-train but with luggage handled. Useful for early-morning flights or late-night arrivals when the public bus 615 stops running.
