Our Honest Take
From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice
Slo is the hostel for travelers who want experiences, not just a bed and a bar. The cooking classes are the standout. where else can you learn to make caneles (Bordeaux's signature pastry) alongside other travelers for a few euros? The themed dinners bring the whole hostel together without feeling forced. stand-up comedy nights are genuinely funny. The lounge with its on-site coffee house is one of the coziest common spaces we've seen in any French hostel. Board games, good espresso, city views through big windows. You could lose a whole rainy afternoon here and be perfectly happy. The Bacalan location is a trade-off: you're not in the old center, but you're near La Cite du Vin and the tram gets you downtown in 15 minutes. This neighborhood has a creative, younger energy. The female dorms on dedicated quieter floors are a nice touch.
๐ฏ Insider Tips
- 1Sign up for the cooking class the day you arrive. Spots fill up fast and it's the best social activity at the hostel.
- 2La Cite du Vin is an 8-minute walk. Even if wine isn't your thing, the building architecture alone is worth seeing.
- 3The coffee house does proper espresso, not instant. Grab one before heading out in the morning.
- 4If you have a bike, Slo has great storage. Bordeaux is incredibly bikeable and it's the best way to see the city.
