The Hostello
Veronetta boutique hostel with a shared kitchen, garden, board games and a resident cat
The Hostello is Verona's boutique-feel hostel — Via XX Settembre 80, in the Veronetta university quarter just across the Adige from the Old City. 9.1 over 1,280 Booking reviews, dorms from €32, a proper shared kitchen, a garden, a board-game room and (per repeat reviewers) a resident cat that joins you in the lounge. The pick if you want local Verona over postcard Verona.
The Hostello sits on Via Venti Settembre in Veronetta, the student quarter on the eastern bank of the river Adige. Cross Ponte Nuovo or Ponte delle Navi (10 min walk) and you're in the Old City — but stay this side of the river and you're in the Verona that students and locals use: cheaper aperitivo bars, smaller restaurants, a calmer evening rhythm than the tourist core.
The building is a converted residential property with around 20 beds across small mixed dorms (4-bed and 6-bed), plus a few private singles and doubles. Every room has a private bathroom, AC, a desk and a clothes rack. Bunks are wood-frame with reading lights and individual lockers. Linen and towels included. Floor surfaces are hardwood or parquet — quiet under foot.
Downstairs is the boutique element: a proper shared kitchen with a stove, fridge, microwave and shelving (the only Verona hostel with a real cook-your-own setup), a shared lounge that doubles as a board-game and movie space, a baggage storage room, a small reception with 24-hour staff coverage, and the garden out the back. The garden is the summer evening highlight — outdoor seating, sunset light through the leaves, the resident tomcat investigating your coffee.
Reviewer consensus across 1,280 Booking reviews (9.1 average — highest in Verona): the staff are exceptional, the kitchen and lounge spaces feel like an apartment more than a dorm, the location feels like staying with a friend who happens to live in a great neighbourhood. Common notes: the building is upper-floors-stairs-only (no elevator — bring soft luggage), the Veronetta walk to Old City attractions adds 10-15 min versus a central hostel, and weekend nights can carry student-bar noise from the streets below — soft for sleep but worth knowing.
