StraVagante Hostel and Rooms
10 min from the train station with an on-site restaurant and garden — the value pick for Verona
StraVagante Hostel & Rooms is the only Verona hostel with its own on-site restaurant and bar — Via Gianattilio dalla Bona 8 in Borgo Milano-Stadio, a 10-minute walk from Porta Nuova station and 25 from the Old City. 9.0 over 4,340 Booking reviews, dorms from €28, and the trade-off the city's other two hostels can't offer: walk downstairs for dinner and aperitivo.
StraVagante sits on Via Gianattilio dalla Bona in Borgo Milano-Stadio, the modern district west of the Old City. It's a 10-minute walk south to Porta Nuova train station (the Lake Garda and Venice trains leave from there), and 25 minutes east to Piazza Bra and the Verona Arena — or 12 minutes by bus 11/12, which stops 50 metres from the front door.
The building is a converted house with around 30 beds across mixed and single-sex dorms (4-bed, 6-bed and 8-bed), plus a handful of private singles, doubles and family rooms. Every room has air conditioning, a desk and a clothes rack; private rooms have flat-screen TVs with cable, and most have private bathrooms.
The distinguishing feature is downstairs: a proper on-site restaurant and bar with a coffee house menu in the morning, snacks and packed lunches mid-day, and an evening menu with wine, beer and Veneto cicchetti. There's a garden with outdoor furniture and a terrace — the summer evening hangout. Pet-friendly (with pet bowls available), family-friendly (kids' meals on the menu), and disabled-accessible.
Reviewer consensus across 4,340 Booking reviews (9.0 average — joint highest in Verona): rooms are spacious and very clean, towels and sheets are white-hotel-grade, the on-site restaurant is the unexpected win, and the value-for-money rating (9.18) is the best in the city. Common notes: the location is a 25-minute walk from the centre (a feature for some, a downside for others — Borgo Milano is calmer but you pay in commute time), the building has thin walls so you'll hear pipe noise from the bathrooms next door, and self-check-in is well-organised but staff aren't on the desk 24/7.
