§ 01 — Summary

Old Town Youth Hostel sits inside a 13th-century building on Stari Grad, deep in the UNESCO-protected Kotor Old Town, with stone-walled dorms, free Wi-Fi and a courtyard that turns into the social hub of the backpacker circuit. 9.2 from 961 reviews. Famous for its Tuesday and Thursday sunset BBQ and Saturday boat party from May to October — the events most other Kotor hostels ride on too.

§ 02 — The full story

Old Town Youth Hostel occupies a 13th-century stone building on Stari Grad 284, three minutes' walk from the Sea Gate (the western entrance to the old town) and one minute from Trg od Oružja, the main square. The address is what backpackers come for — you don't transit anywhere by bus inside the walls, and the path to the start of the city wall hike (the steps up to St. John's Fortress) is a 90-second walk from the front door.

The building shows its age, and that's the appeal. Stone walls, wooden ceilings, narrow staircases, and a small interior courtyard where the social scene happens. Dorms are 4-, 6-, and 8-bed, with curtained bunks, lockers and reading lamps. There are also a few private doubles, marketed honestly as 'compact'. Bedding is fresh, bathrooms are renovated, and there's air conditioning in every room — non-negotiable in Kotor's July-August heat.

The social engine is the on-site events crew. From May to October, the hostel runs a sunset BBQ + boat trip in the bay every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (€20-30, food included, BYO drinks), and most of the wider Kotor backpacker scene buys in: even guests at Pupa, Centrum and Hostelito show up. There's a small honesty bar that runs on a clipboard. Pub crawls leave around 22:00 most nights from the courtyard, hitting Letrika, Hugo and the bigger Tabacina-side bars.

Reality check: this is a party hostel. Not techno-club levels, but the courtyard runs loud until quiet hours at 23:00 and stone walls leak sound. If you've come to Kotor primarily to climb the wall, kayak the bay and sleep at 22:00, pick Pupa or Centrum instead. Pick Old Town Youth Hostel if you want the boat party, the sunset BBQ, and an instant social circle on the first afternoon.

Finland10.0

This place nails what a hostel should be: clean, safe, and full of character. Loved the social atmosphere and the ease of meeting fellow travelers. The team was always happy to offer tips on tours, restaurants, and nightlife. If you want to explore Kotor and make new friends along the way, this is the spot.

Charming hostel in the old town. I rented a private room rather than a dorm — probably one of the more affordable options inside the walls. In winter the place is quiet and you'll have a small floor to yourself. Bathroom worked, Wi-Fi was good. Tip: tell the front desk your arrival window.
