Oslo Vest
Apartment-style hostel in Frogner with a sun terrace, board games, and parquet-floor calm
Apartment-style hostel on Frognerveien (the second Frogner pick) with sun terrace, board games, garden, and parquet-floor rooms — friendly, quiet, and within steps of Vigelandsparken trams.
Oslo Vest sits at the same Frognerveien address as its sister property, but with a slightly different personality: more apartment-like, with parquet floors, a proper sun terrace at the back, and a board-game shelf that gets pulled out on rainy nights. It's the alternative to Oslo Living for travelers who want more communal space and don't mind sharing the bathroom.
The rooms are spacious for Oslo, with parquet floors, work desks, and city or inner-courtyard views. Soundproofing is decent, and the shared kitchen is well-equipped — important when Oslo restaurant prices regularly exceed 250 NOK for a single dish. The terrace gets afternoon sun in summer (Oslo's long days mean that's roughly 13:00 to 21:00 in June), and it's where everyone ends up with a beer from the supermarket.
Location-wise, you're in Frogner: leafy, embassy-quiet, posh-but-walkable, with Vigelandsparken a 12-minute walk and Aker Brygge fjord ferries five minutes by tram. The mix of guests skews older than a typical backpacker hostel — couples, solo travelers, mid-budget Norwegians and Germans on city breaks. Quieter, more conversational, and with proper personal space.
The security is private check-in (you're given a code), so late arrivals are easy. There's a 1,000-NOK damage deposit at booking, refunded at check-out — standard Frogner self-managed accommodation practice.
- 01The sun terrace is the genuine selling point — Oslo's long summer days mean late-evening sun until 21:00, and the terrace catches it beautifully.
- 02Board game shelf gets used — perfect for the 6 dark winter months when going out gets expensive fast.
- 03Frogner location: posh, leafy, walkable to Vigelandsparken in 12 minutes and Aker Brygge ferries in 5 by tram.
- 04Spacious apartment-style rooms with parquet floors and desks — a real workspace, not just a bed.
- 05Private check-in code means late arrivals are no hassle — just confirm with host the day before.

“Such a great apartment in the heart of the city. The room itself was spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Sun terrace was a perfect summer perk.”
