Freedom Hostel
Budget Krowodrza hostel for long Krakow stays
A mid-size social hostel on Pomorska in the Krowodrza district, a 15-minute walk northwest of Rynek Główny. Good kitchen, board-game corner, and the cheapest dorm beds of any hostel in our Krakow shortlist.
Freedom Hostel occupies a converted apartment building on Pomorska in Krowodrza, a residential district northwest of the Old Town. The 15-minute walk to Rynek Główny is the trade-off for consistently lower dorm rates and a quieter neighborhood — local bakeries, a proper farmer's market on Plac Nowy Kleparz (different from the Kazimierz one), and a tram stop on line 4 that reaches the main square in 8 minutes.
The hostel has around 60 beds across a mix of 4, 6, 8, and 10-bed mixed dorms, plus a few female-only dorms and private twins. The ground-floor common area is the social heart — board games on shelves, a small bar (beer only, 10 PLN), and a communal kitchen with two stoves. Breakfast is a 20 PLN add-on; there's also a Biedronka supermarket 3 minutes away.
A low-key social programme runs: Friday walking tours of Kazimierz, Sunday communal pierogi dinners for 25 PLN, and occasional board-game tournaments. The demographic skews younger (early 20s first-timers) and longer (backpackers staying a week while they do Auschwitz, Wieliczka, and day trips to Zakopane). It is not a party hostel but it is social, and at 13 EUR dorm beds it's the correct budget pick.

“Good budget option. Location is not central but tram 4 gets you to the main square quickly. Sunday pierogi dinner was a nice touch and a good way to meet other travellers.”
“Stayed 8 nights while doing Auschwitz, Wieliczka and a trip to Zakopane. Freedom worked great as a base — cheap, social enough, and the Krowodrza neighbourhood was actually a nice break from Old Town crowds.”
“Dobra opcja budżetowa. Clean dorms, working showers, friendly international mix in the common room. The 15 min walk to Old Town is fine if you like walking.”
