Wawel Hostel
The closest hostel to Wawel Castle in Krakow
A low-key Old Town hostel on Podwale, directly beneath Wawel Castle and a two-minute walk to Rynek Główny. Small dorms, a well-used kitchen, and the best Wawel Castle access of any Krakow hostel.
Wawel Hostel lives up to its name: the castle gate is 160 metres south of the front door, and Rynek Główny 300 metres north. The building on Podwale sits on the Planty park ring, the green belt that circles the Old Town, which means despite being one of the most central addresses in Krakow, the evenings are noticeably quieter than the Floriańska or Zyblikiewicza party blocks.
The hostel itself is small — around 40 beds total across 4, 6, and 8-bed mixed dorms, plus a handful of private twins. A single shared kitchen on the ground floor with two stoves and a long dining table; a small common room; a laundry machine that works. No bar, no in-house pub crawl. It positions itself as a traveler's hostel rather than a party one, and books up in July-August with families and older solo travelers who want the Wawel-proximity without the stag scene.
It is the best Wawel-visit base in the city. First slot into the castle opens at 09:30, and from Wawel Hostel you can roll out of bed, shower, grab a coffee from Cafe Camelot on Grodzka, and be at the ticket gate for 09:20 — no other hostel matches that geography.

“Stayed 4 nights, enjoyed the quiet Planty-ring location. Dorms comfortable, hot showers, and breakfast bakery 1 min away. Much better than the Florianska party places for exploring at pace.”
“Small hostel feel, staff remember you, good base for Wawel and the Old Town. Would pick this over a generic chain hostel again. Common room a bit cramped but fine.”
