Chill Spot - Faro Hostel
Quiet kitchen-first hostel in the old town — the chill alternative to the rooftop crowd
A small newer hostel on Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque with a self-check-in system, a big well-equipped kitchen, and a quiet garden. Run by Filipe, who's contactable by message during the stay. New to the Faro scene and currently building review history, but the early scores are unanimously high.
Chill Spot - Faro Hostel opened recently on Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a couple of blocks north of the Mercado Municipal and three blocks from the Faro Cathedral. The hostel runs a self-check-in system: Filipe sends a code by WhatsApp on the morning of arrival, you let yourself in any time, and there's no front-desk-hours friction.
The building is small — capacity is around 12-14 beds across mixed dorms and a couple of private rooms — and the standout space is the kitchen. Reviewers consistently call out the size and equipment: full oven, induction hobs, espresso machine, two fridges, plenty of pans, and a dining table that seats 8-10. The kitchen is the social hub here, not a rooftop bar (there isn't one). A small garden out the back gets the late-morning sun and works as a quiet co-working spot for digital nomads.
Ground-floor units make this one of the only step-free hostels in central Faro, which matters if you're rolling a heavy bag in from the train station 8 minutes away. There's a shared lounge with board games and a TV, plus a smoke-free interior with a designated outdoor smoking area.
What the early reviewers (8 reviews so far, average 8.9) flag as a sweet spot: clean, modern, quiet, well-located, easy self check-in, kitchen perfect for cooking. What's missing on purpose: rooftop bar, social programme, evening events. This is not a party hostel. It's the chill alternative to Casa d'Alagoa for travelers who want to cook their own dinner with fresh fish from the market and have a quiet conversation in a garden afterwards.
- 01The kitchen is the social hub — you'll cook, eat and chat with the same 6-8 guests every night.
- 02Self check-in via WhatsApp code means no waiting around if your TAP flight lands at 23h45.
- 03Five blocks from the Mercado Municipal — the best fish stall in town is a 4-min walk for tomorrow's dinner.
- 04Step-free ground-floor entry is genuinely rare in Faro's old town and a real win with a heavy backpack.
- 05Newer building means modern showers, modern wiring, modern AC — the antithesis of the charming-but-creaky old-house option.
- Big well-equipped shared kitchen
- Self check-in (no front-desk hours)
- Ground-floor step-free option
- Quiet garden out back

“The hostel was well located, and the room was bigger than we expected. The washroom was clean. Check-in was very easy and we had no disturbance during our stay. Recommended.”
“Beautiful house in the centre, big modern common areas, the kitchen is large and superbly equipped, everything you need is there. The room was big enough, all new and modern and clean.”
