Urban Garden is the specialist hostel — the one to book if any of its three unusual features (pod beds, 200 m² garden, labelled vegan breakfast) matter to you. The pod-capsule setup is the most private dorm sleep you'll get in Porto at this price, and the garden is legitimately a surprise: 200 m² behind a townhouse in a dense city neighborhood, with a hammock, BBQ, and bench seating that gets used. The downside is the Santo Ildefonso location — you're 10 min from São Bento and the central sights, so it's less of a tourist-step-out-the-door base than Central House or Rivoli. Tip: request a pod in the rear dorms on booking — they open onto the garden-facing side of the building rather than Rua da Alegria, and the difference is about 5 decibels of traffic.

The building is a restored 19th-century townhouse with original stone walls inside, and the centrepiece is the back garden: 200 m² of actual outdoor space, with a hammock, outdoor seating, a BBQ setup, and small-event space. Nothing else in central Porto has a garden this size at this price.
The beds are pod-style (capsule bunks with curtains, individual reading lights, ventilation, a shelf big enough for a book and a phone, and a lockable compartment). It's the most private dorm setup in this round-up — several reviewers compare it to a Japanese capsule hotel. Every dorm has a private en-suite bathroom.
Breakfast is buffet, and unusually for a Portuguese hostel it covers vegan + gluten-free options (not just 'we have bread and fruit' — actual labelled vegan cheese, plant milks, GF granola). This is the hostel for dietary-restriction travelers who are tired of hunting.
