Social Hostels in Córdoba: Bar Crawls, Patio Parties, Group Tours

Córdoba's hostel social scene is divided across two clear options: Albergue Inturjoven runs the youth-hostel-network format with creative workshops, group dinners in the cafeteria, and shared garden gatherings — institutional but consistent. Cats Hostel Córdoba in San Lorenzo is the chain-party answer with a real bar, a seasonal pool, and a nightly bar crawl that leaves the patio at 22h for the Plaza de la Corredera circuit. Both walk to the Mezquita; only one comes with a 17h bar pour.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I did two consecutive nights in Córdoba — first at Albergue Inturjoven, second at Cats Santa Marta — and the contrast is clean. Night one at Inturjoven: 21h dinner in the cafeteria (7€ pasta, the local Montilla-Moriles wine, vegan option for the four Catalan students at the next table), then 22h until 23h00 in the central garden with takeaway drinks from the cafeteria, conversations with two solo Korean travelers and a French film student doing an Erasmus at the on-site creative workshop. Lights out at 23h, dorm completely quiet by 23h30. Night two at Cats Santa Marta: 21h sandwich at the on-site coffee shop, 22h bar-crawl meet-up in the patio (about 18 of us, mostly mid-twenties Australians and Germans with two solo Brits), led by Sergio to Bar Santos for the first drink and salmorejo, Salinas for the second, then Cruz Conde for the DJ bar after midnight. Back to the hostel at 02h00, dorm noise level was as expected (high) until about 03h. The two hostels solve different social problems — Inturjoven the conversational, Cats the bar-led.

§ 03 — Tips

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Social Events in Córdoba

Tip Nº 01

Cats Santa Marta bar crawl: meets in the patio at 22h Fri-Sat. Sign up at reception after dinner (no charge for the crawl itself; you pay for drinks at each stop). Wear shoes you can walk on cobblestones in.

Tip Nº 02

Albergue Inturjoven dinner: 20h-22h, 7-10€ depending on the dish. The cafeteria is the de-facto social hub; sit at the long communal tables, not the booths.

Tip Nº 03

Plaza de la Corredera Sunday vermouth: 11h-13h on Sunday at Bar Santos and Salinas. 5 min from Cats, 12 min from Inturjoven. Order a vermouth on tap and the salmorejo with chopped jamón.

Tip Nº 04

Pool at Cats opens June 15 to September 15 most years — the bar crawl is year-round but the daytime pool scene is seasonal. May travelers should pick the Sandemans walking tour as social opener instead.

Tip Nº 05

Inturjoven's creative workshop hosts free Friday-evening exhibitions during the academic year (October-June). Posters in the lobby; usually a 30-minute opening with wine.
