§ 01 — Summary

Stylish hostel on Plaza de Celenque, 120 m from Puerta del Sol — the literal centre of Spain. Parquet floors, free pool table, themed parties at the bar, and a tour desk running bike tours into Retiro. Private rooms + mixed dorms, all air conditioned.

§ 02 — The full story

Toc Hostel sits on Plaza de Celenque, a small square wedged between Sol and Ópera, 120 metres from the kilometre-zero plaque in Puerta del Sol. You can't get more centre-of-Madrid than this without actually sleeping on the square. The building was fitted out in the 2010s to a design-conscious spec — parquet floors throughout, light-wood furniture, proper windows, decent sound insulation where possible (weekend street noise from Sol does still reach the front-facing rooms on the lower floors).

Rooms split between 4-, 6-, and 10-bed mixed dorms (no female-only floor, which is a gap) and private singles, doubles, and twins. Dorms are en-suite in some configurations and shared-bathroom-per-floor in others — ask at booking. Every bed has a reading light, USB port, and locker. Air conditioning in every room and it actually works in summer.

Social spine: a ground-floor bar with themed parties (80s night Thursdays, reggaeton Fridays, house Saturdays) and happy hour 18:00-20:00. A games room with a free pool table — easier icebreaker than most scheduled events. Tour desk running free walking tours at 10:30 daily, bike tours into Retiro + Paseo del Prado at 11:00, and a bar crawl leaving at 22:00 hitting Sol and Malasaña.

§ 03 — Why we love it
  • 01120 m from Puerta del Sol — literally steps from the kilometre-zero plaque and the New Year's Eve clock
  • 02Free pool table beats a scheduled event for breaking the ice on night one
  • 03Themed bar parties (80s Thursdays, reggaeton Fridays) are the kind of theme nights Spanish hostels do well
  • 04Parquet floors + light-wood furniture make it feel like a proper flat, not a hostel warehouse
  • 05Bike tours from reception at €15 for 3 hours is cheaper than any Retiro bike-rental place
§ 04 — The vibes

Great location and facilities. Competent staff. The pool table made meeting other guests easy on the first night.

Perfect base for Madrid, 2 minutes to Sol literally. The 80s party night was way more fun than it had any right to be.

Clean, modern, staff helpful with restaurant recommendations. Parquet floors were a nice touch over the usual hostel tile.
