City-run hostel-and-campsite hybrid, the only Zaragoza address with an outdoor pool, BBQ pit, garden, and on-site restaurant-bar. Cheaper dorm beds than anywhere in the old town, but you trade walking-distance access for a 12-minute bus ride.
Albergue Zaragoza Camping is the city's official hostel and campsite, run on a public-private model on a green plot off Calle de San Juan Bautista de la Salle, four kilometres west of Plaza del Pilar. It's the only address in Zaragoza with an outdoor swimming pool, a BBQ pit, a proper garden, and an on-site restaurant-bar with a terrace. It's also the only address where you'll need to take a bus.
Dorms are basic, six to eight bunks per room with shared bathrooms (towels and sheets are extra fee, bring your own to save €4 per night). Private rooms exist if you want them. The wifi is 'present' rather than 'great', and the rooms are functional rather than fancy. Heating works, AC is patchy in some rooms, ask at booking.
What sets the place apart is the grounds. In June-September the outdoor pool is open and free for guests, with sun loungers and a pool bar. The garden is genuinely a garden, not three potted plants on a balcony. The on-site restaurant does a €13 menú del día (much cheaper than anything in the old town). And free parking is unlimited and right outside the door, the only Zaragoza hostel where this is true.
The trade is location. You're 4 km from Pilar Basilica. Bus 35 runs from outside the gate to Plaza del Pilar in 12 minutes (€1.45, every 15 min, 06:00-23:00). Last bus 23:00, after that it's a €10-12 taxi back. If you want to be in El Tubo at midnight every night, this is the wrong pick. If you want a quiet pool day plus cheap evenings in town, it's perfect.
