Our Honest Take
From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice
Skanstulls Boutique is the boutique-design pick in Södermalm — individually decorated rooms, quiet block, and private-bathroom options at prices that STF-level hostels match but in uglier rooms. The trade-off is small kitchen and no social programming: no bar, no sauna, no bar crawl, no breakfast. If you want design-forward and SoFo-proximity for bar-hopping on your own schedule, this is the Stockholm pick. If you want hostel-friends and programmed social events, it's City Backpackers or Generator Stockholm. Skanstull metro (green line) is literally 150 metres away — one of the most transit-adjacent hostels in Stockholm. Best fit: pairs, solo design-focused travelers, couples on a 2-4 night Södermalm trip.
🎯 Insider Tips
- 1Ask for rooms 201 to 208 on booking — the second-floor rooms have the best wallpaper-and-print individual decor, while ground-floor rooms get street noise from Ringvägen bus traffic.
- 2Private-bathroom rooms cost about 10 EUR more per night — worth it for 2-plus nights if you're not traveling with a hostel friend group.
- 3Walk one block north up Götgatan to SoFo: Akkurat (craft beer, Sweden's best Belgian tap list) is 8 min, Kvarnen (classic Swedish pub) is 6, and Meatballs for the People is 7 min east.
- 4Metro Skanstull (150 m) is the fastest route to Central Station (4 stops, 6 min) and to Gamla Stan (2 stops, 3 min). Skip the bus — the metro is faster and cheaper.

Private-bathroom rooms plentiful at under-EUR-55 prices
In the SoFo bar district — Akkurat, Kvarnen, Meatballs 6-8 min walk
Bed linens AND towels included in the rate (rare for Stockholm)
📖 The Full Story
Skanstulls Boutique Hostel is a small (60-bed) design-conscious hostel on Ringvägen in the Skanstull section of Södermalm — 150 metres from Skanstull metro (green line) and inside SoFo (south of Folkungagatan), Stockholm's craft-beer and indie-bar district. The building is a renovated 1920s apartment block, and each room is individually decorated: different wallpapers, framed prints, reading chairs, not the identical-bunks-everywhere hostel standard. The whole place looks more like a small design-hotel than a backpacker hostel.
Rooms span 4, 6, and 8-bed dorms plus a good number of privates (singles, twins, doubles, a couple of triples). Roughly half the rooms have private bathrooms — rare at this price in Stockholm. The shared kitchen is small but adequate for the hostel size; there's no restaurant-bar, no breakfast service, no sauna — this is the deliberate anti-Generator hostel. Bed linens and towels are included in the rate (also rare for Stockholm).
Skanstull itself is a mix of leafy streets and the main artery Götgatan leading north into SoFo proper. Kvarnen is 6 minutes walk, Akkurat craft-beer bar is 8, Nytorget and Meatballs for the People are 7. For bar-hopping SoFo without the hostel-party energy, Skanstulls Boutique is the answer. T-Centralen is 4 metro stops (6 minutes); Gamla Stan is 8.
Reviewers focus on three things: the cleanliness ('spotless', 'very pretty'), the quiet ('calm area'), and the location ('close to the city centre, 25-30 min walking'). The most common complaint is that the kitchen is small — if you're cooking for a group, walk to STF Zinkensdamm's kitchen instead. This is a sleep-and-design-forward hostel, not a social-hostel.
