STF Zinkensdamm Hostel
8.5-rated in Södermalm — park-side location, free pasta for guests, and a Swedish-sauna add-on that earns its price
8.5-rated STF hostel on the south edge of Tantolunden Park in Södermalm, 3 minutes' walk from Zinkensdamm metro (red line, 8 minutes to T-Centralen). Two shared kitchens, a restaurant-bar on-site, free pasta for guests, and the classic Södermalm backpacker crowd — the best-value Södermalm hostel for stays of 2 to 5 nights.
STF Zinkensdamm is the 254-bed flagship of the Swedish Tourist Association's Stockholm network — a 1920s park-side building at the south edge of Tantolunden (Tanto park), running down to the water at Årstaviken. The park is a 5-minute walk, the Zinkensdamm metro station (red line) is 3 minutes, and bus 4 and 66 stops are out the door. T-Centralen is a single change, 8 minutes. SoFo (south of Folkungagatan) — Stockholm's backpacker-adjacent craft-beer and indie-bar district — is 12 minutes on foot.
The building is large and it runs like a proper STF hotel-plus-hostel hybrid. Two large shared kitchens (one per wing), a restaurant-bar that opens for dinner, a good breakfast buffet (130 SEK), and — the signature — free pasta for hostel guests, permanently stocked in the kitchens. A small Swedish wood-fired sauna is bookable in slots (150 SEK, 45 minutes, up to 6 people). Rooms range from 4-bed dorms to proper private doubles and family rooms; roughly half include private bathrooms, and every dorm has bed linens included.
The neighbourhood is the sell. Tantolunden has Stockholm's most-popular summer swimming pier and winter ice-skating lake; 5 minutes north you hit Mariatorget and Mariaberget viewpoints over Gamla Stan; 10 minutes east puts you in SoFo for bars. This is Stockholm's easiest hostel for the classic 'day museums plus evening SoFo bars' routine, without old-town tourist pricing.
Reviewers mention the reliable-STF experience ('clean, well-run'), the breakfast ('genuinely good'), and the location ('quiet but close'). Common complaints: the 4- and 6-bed dorms can get noisy when booked by school groups (STF gets volume bookings from Swedish student trips, check if there's a group in-house at reservation). The Tantolunden summer-party evenings carry sound into the park-facing rooms when it's warm.
