§ 01 — Summary

A boutique-leaning villa hostel four blocks from Pazari i Ri (the New Bazaar), with the most reviewed garden in Tirana and a guest kitchen the staff actually keeps stocked. Best balance of social and quiet in the city.

§ 02 — The full story

Mandarine Hostel occupies a renovated 1970s villa on Rruga Mustafa Lleshi, four blocks east of Pazari i Ri. The garden — orange trees, ivy, mosaic tables — is the daily highlight: it is where guests work in the morning, eat breakfast, and decompress after the bar crawl. With 524 reviews and a 9.1 average, this is the most consistently rated hostel in Tirana under 20 EUR a bed.

The location is strong without being chaotic. Pazari i Ri's grilled-meat stalls and morning fruit market are 5 minutes walk; Skanderbeg Square is 10 minutes; Blloku is a 15-minute amble through the Et'hem Bey Mosque district. You sleep with windows open without the late-night noise of staying directly on a bar street.

Dorms are 4 to 8 beds, all with curtains, AC, USB sockets, and properly soundproofed walls — a rarity in Tirana's converted villas. Bathrooms are en-suite for 4-bed dorms, shared for 6 and 8. Private rooms keep the original parquet floors.

The vibe is social but adult. Breakfast is included (Albanian — pite, eggs, fresh fruit, espresso), the kitchen has a stocked spice rack and decent pots, and the staff books day trips at 5-10 EUR less than the agencies on Rruga Murat Toptani. The hostel runs a Wednesday bar crawl and a Saturday raki tasting in the garden.

Cleanest hostel I have stayed in this year. Garden is gorgeous, breakfast is real Albanian food. Booked Berat through them and saved 5 euros.

The Saturday raki tasting was the highlight of my trip, the distiller from Berat is real and the manë raki is now my favourite drink. Soundproofing actually works.

Great workspace in the garden with proper WiFi. Stayed five nights as a digital nomad and got real work done. Walking distance to everything.
