§ 01 — Summary

Hotel Central Linz is a self-check-in property on Humboldtstraße in Innere Stadt, eight minutes walk from Linz Hauptbahnhof and twelve from Hauptplatz. Private rooms only (no dorms), private bathrooms, kettle and fridge in every room, a small terrace, free WiFi, and a 24-hour code-box check-in that means you can roll in at 02:00 off the night train without phoning ahead. Around €55 a private — cheaper than any hotel on Landstraße, and the most flexible arrival in Linz.

§ 02 — The full story

Hotel Central Linz is the Linz answer to a question backpackers actually ask: how do I get a private room near the train station for under sixty euros without surrendering the entire morning to a slow check-in. The address — 28 Humboldtstraße, Innere Stadt 4020 — sits one block south of the Landstraße shopping spine, opposite Casino Linz, and a straight 8-minute walk down Bahnhofstraße to the Hauptbahnhof. From here the trams 1, 2 and 3 will drop you in front of Hauptplatz in three stops.

The pitch is self-check-in, code-box, and quiet. There is no reception desk and no on-site staff after the daily housekeeping window — bookings come with a code that opens a key safe, which opens your room. The host responds via WhatsApp, generally within a couple of hours but not in real time, which is a useful thing to know if you're the type who wants someone to greet you at the door.

Rooms are private only — singles, doubles, family rooms — each with private bathroom, work desk, refrigerator, kettle and tea/coffee, hairdryer, wardrobe and TV. Beddings are clean (every reviewer mentions it), the rooms are small but functional, and the hallway-sound-insulation is the recurring soft complaint — bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. There is a terrace with outdoor furniture for the summer months and a bicycle parking rack out front.

No breakfast service. No bar. No common-room scene. What is here: free WiFi, secure 24-hour access, luggage storage, daily housekeeping, and rooms that consistently rate 8.0+ on cleanliness even on Booking's tougher peak-season weeks. If you want a Linz party hostel you came to the wrong country (Vienna is 1h15 east). If you want a clean private bed within a Landstraße block of every tram and a Lidl two minutes away, this is the cheapest way to get one.

§ 03 — Why we love it
  • 01The 8-minute walk to Hauptbahnhof — perfect for the early Vienna or Salzburg ÖBB
  • 02The 24-hour code-box check-in — roll in at 03:00 off the Prague night bus, no problem
  • 03Around €55 for a private room with private bathroom in Innere Stadt — half the price of a Landstraße hotel
  • 04Casino Linz across the street keeps the immediate block lit and trafficked at 1am — solo-traveler-friendly
  • 05Free, decent WiFi that actually works in the rooms, not just the lobby (Sharon from Ohio noticed; we did too)
§ 05 — Features
  • Self-check-in 24h — code-box, no reception
  • Innere Stadt address, 8 min walk to Hauptbahnhof
  • Private rooms only with private bathrooms
  • €55 doors, cheapest in central Linz

Good for its price, close the city centre, nice staff. Old fashioned TV, noisy bed.

Small but very clean room. Had everything to be comfortable for my short stay (2 nights). I could hear everyone going in the halls.

The hotel is very well located, 10 minutes walk from the train station, and next to the city centre. It has a self check-in, you receive a code to open a small safe where the keys are.
