Jugendgästehaus Linz
The official Austrian youth hostel up on Froschberg — €32 dorms, free parking, and a 10-minute bus to Hauptplatz
Jugendgästehaus Linz is the official Austrian youth hostel network's Linz outpost, on Stanglhofweg in the Froschberg residential hilltop next to Linz Stadium and the Tips-Arena. Dorms with bunk beds and private bathroom from €32, free use of an on-site tennis court and fitness room, free parking, shared lounge and games room, and bus 27 four times an hour to the centre. Cheapest bed in Linz, and the only place that takes the official youth-hostel card.
Jugendgästehaus Linz is run by the Österreichischer Jugendherbergsverband — the official Austrian youth-hostel association — and the property reflects the institutional lineage. The address, Stanglhofweg 3, sits on the Froschberg, a quiet residential hill twenty-five minutes on foot south of Hauptplatz. Bus 27 runs four times an hour from a stop a couple of minutes from the door and reaches Hauptplatz in roughly ten minutes, so even though it's the longest commute of the three Linz hostels you're not stranded.
The building is a 1970s sports-and-youth-accommodation block (Alexander from Bulgaria called it "feels like a Soviet-era building, but room and bed and bath were quite comfortable"). Bedrooms are mostly 4-bed dorms and family rooms with bunk beds, all of them with private bathrooms — which is the recurring 8–9 review tag, that the dorms sleep four with a private shower attached, not a hostel-corridor shared block. There is also a quiet lounge, a games room with vending machines for drinks and snacks, a TV room and a meeting room. No bar.
The sports-and-outdoor side is the property's neighbour-bonus. Linz Stadium is across the street, the Tips-Arena (multipurpose indoor venue) is next door, and the property includes free use of a tennis court and fitness room. Free private parking on-site is rare for a hostel, useful for the Danube Bike Path crowd. There's a sun deck, a small garden and a terrace for the warm months.
Breakfast is included on most rates and runs the standard Austrian cold-cuts-and-bread layout (Jama from Vienna scored it 9 in April, Both from Romania called it "very good with a nice variety" — the cold cuts and bread are the lead). Soundproofing is the recurring soft critique — Toni from Serbia flagged it in a 7-rated review. Check-out at 09:30 is early; if you want a late morning, this is not your hostel. What it offers is the cheapest, cleanest dorm bed in Linz, plenty of parking, and a transit ride to the centre.

“Solo traveler, got a clean wide room with 4 beds; quiet place with a forest view from the window. Feels like a Soviet-era building, but room and bed and bath were quite comfortable and 100% clean.”
“Great and easy contact with hostel. We arrived far beyond check in window and yet we were handled as we would expect.”
