Our Honest Take
From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice
Harbour Hub is Tallinn's ferry-loop hostel, and that's not a criticism. Pick it if you're doing the Helsinki day-trip from here or catching an early morning Tallink sailing. The shared kitchen is actually useful, not a token appliance, which matters when the closest supermarket is the Rimi in Rotermann two minutes away. Skip it if Old Town cobblestones are the whole point of Tallinn for you โ the fifteen-minute walk each way is fine in summer but cold in November. Tip: the dorms on the courtyard side are two degrees quieter than those facing Paadi; ask at check-in.
๐ฏ Insider Tips
- 1Book the bike the night before โ they disappear by 10am in summer
- 2Rotermann Rimi opens at 8am for ferry-day picnic ingredients
- 3Tram 1 from Linnahall runs to Viru in 7 min if the weather turns
- 4Walk to Fotografiska in Telliskivi for the best evening views back at the harbor
๐ฅ Why We Love It
Closest viable budget bed to the Helsinki ferry terminals
Shared kitchen with labeled fridge shelves, not a gesture
Free bicycles for the ride out to Pirita beach
Rotermann Quarter craft beer bars five minutes away
๐ The Full Story
Harbour Hub was clearly built for the Helsinki ferry flow. Paadi street is a short walk from terminals A and D, so if your Viking Line or Tallink leaves at 07:30 you can roll out of bed at 06:45 and still make it without a Bolt. The Rotermann Quarter with its craft beer bars is five minutes inland, and Balti Jaam Market is a fifteen-minute walk past the seaplane harbour.
Inside, it's pragmatic rather than polished. Dorms are functional with sturdy bunks, reading lights that actually work, and private lockers inside each room. The shared kitchen runs morning and evening traffic, with enough burners that nobody waits long. Guests with bikes use the secure rack by the entrance; the free in-house bicycles get booked quickly on sunny days for the Pirita beach ride.
There's no in-house bar or organized pub crawl, which is the trade for the location. Most guests walk the fifteen minutes to Monks Bunk or the Rataskaevu crawl for a social night, then roll back through quiet streets. The 24-hour reception and keycard access make late ferry arrivals painless. Summer books out two weeks in advance; winter rates drop to โฌ16 and the ferry crowd thins out to a Finnish few.

โNo frills accommodation at a cheap price. Exactly what the website says. Bikes were handy for a Kadriorg ride and the keycard system meant no fuss coming back at 1am.โ

โGreat spot for a solo trip. Met a few travelers in the kitchen who were all doing the Helsinki hop. The location really is five minutes to the terminals, I timed it. Would book again in a heartbeat.โ
