Our Honest Take

From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice

Ring SPA is the outlier of Tallinn hostel lineup and the reason to stay here is specific: you want a sauna session at 11pm and a hot tub at 10am, and the Haabersti suburbs are a fair trade for that. Pick it in winter, when the idea of walking twenty minutes through minus ten to find a sauna makes this one obvious. Pick it with a rental car. Skip it if you're a first-timer who wants the Old Town as your front porch โ€” bus 21 is reliable but it's not the same as stepping out onto Viru street. Tip: book the sauna slot at check-in, the 20:00 slot on a Friday goes fast to Estonian guests.

๐ŸŽฏ Insider Tips

  • 1Sauna sessions slot in 90-minute blocks โ€” book the 19:00 block at check-in
  • 2Bus 21 runs every 15 min until midnight to Viru; after that, Bolt is โ‚ฌ6
  • 3Harku Lake beach is a 15-min walk for summer swims
  • 4Rocca al Mare open-air museum opens 10am โ€” the early slot avoids the tour buses

๐Ÿ“– The Full Story

Ring SPA Hostel is Tallinn's sauna answer to the budget-hotel question. The building sits in Haabersti, a quiet west suburb near the Rocca al Mare open-air museum and the Estonian Zoo, and the standout feature is the full wellness center downstairs: a sauna room, an indoor swimming pool, a plunge pool, a hammam steam bath, a hot tub, and a pool bar. For Estonians the sauna is cultural infrastructure, not a hotel amenity, and Ring SPA knows it.

Rooms are priced like hostel privates but furnished like a functional sports hotel: double beds (the extra-long sort for tall guests), private ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers, AC, desks, and a shared kitchen on each floor for guests who don't want to eat every meal at the on-site coffee shop. A continental buffet breakfast with cheese is included and runs from 7am. Free on-site parking is genuinely rare for Tallinn at this price.

The trade is location. Bus 21 runs from outside every 15 minutes and lands at Viru Keskus in about 18 minutes โ€” perfectly fine, but it's not an Old Town address. What you gain is a genuine neighborhood at the door: Rocca al Mare open-air museum, the Zoo, Harku Lake beach for summer, and Pirita beach via a 20-minute drive. Winter visitors rate it most โ€” when outside is minus ten, having your own sauna two floors below beats any bar crawl.

โ€œLovely spa. Rooms were nice. Location was random but the bus links were good. Honestly the sauna sold this place for me โ€” we did three sessions across two nights and it felt like a wellness break.โ€

โ€œThe spa. That's why I came back a second time. Sauna culture is so important in Finland and the one here is proper โ€” not a decorative thing. Rooms are simple but clean with private bathrooms.โ€

โ€œReally good quality accommodation, more like a hotel than a hostel. The private ensuite, continental breakfast and the sauna together make it feel more like a two-star hotel. Bus into town was easy.โ€
