Tip Nº 01
Use the garden between 13:00 and 17:00 — the city stone bakes in summer, the squares have no shade, and 4 hours horizontal in your hostel garden is the real Italian midday rhythm. Italians do this; tourists confused about why they're exhausted by 16:00 don't.
Tip Nº 02
Stock the garden from supermarket cicchetti, not from a Piazza delle Erbe bar. COOP on Via Vivarini (5 min from The Hostello), the small alimentari near Sant'Anastasia (3 min from Protezione), or the Borgo Milano supermercato (5 min from StraVagante) — €15 buys a Soave bottle, mortadella, focaccia and grapes. Beats a €30 aperitivo for two on a square.
Tip Nº 03
If you're at StraVagante and the bar/restaurant is open in the garden, that's where to take the late evening spritz — it's the only Verona hostel where this stacks (garden + on-site bar). Protezione's garden is dry; The Hostello's garden has no bar but the cat shows up.
Tip Nº 04
Opera season (June through early September) means the Arena is loud at night — you can hear the climaxes from anywhere within 1 km. Even from the gardens at Protezione (12 min walk to the Arena) and StraVagante (25 min by walking), summer evenings have the Aida soundtrack drifting in. It's part of the experience, not a noise problem.
