Stayokay Rotterdam is the hostel you pick for the novelty that turns into a travel story. The building is one of Piet Blom's 1984 Kubuswoningen — the tilted yellow cubes at Overblaak — and the hostel occupies a dozen of them joined internally. You actually sleep inside the cube, with windows that face the Old Harbour on one side and the Markthal on the other. The April 2026 renovation cleaned up the dorms, upgraded the mattresses, and added a rooftop deck.
Dorms are 4-bed, 6-bed, and a handful of 10-bed options, mixed and female-only. Wooden-frame bunks, curtains, in-bed sockets, lockers inside the rooms. Bathrooms are private per dorm (4 and 6 bed rooms) or shared on floor (10-bed). A handful of privates (twin, quad, family) are bookable on the upper cubes with tilted windows.
The restaurant-bar downstairs serves breakfast (€10, buffet) and dinner (€14, single-course changing daily). The bar opens at 16:00 with draft Heineken, Brand, and a small Dutch craft rotation. The rooftop deck above the main cubes opens May through September and has the best overhead view of the Old Harbour you'll get without paying for the Euromast.
Stayokay is part of the Dutch Hostelling International network, so HI members get 10% off, and the hostel runs a weekly calendar: Friday welcome-drink 19:00, Saturday walking tour departing 10:30 from the lobby (€10, two hours, hits Markthal + Erasmus Bridge + Cube Houses interior), and Sunday morning yoga on the rooftop (weather-permitting, May to September).
It's bigger and more institutional than Ani&Haakien or Hostel ROOM — 170 beds across the cubes — but the architectural novelty and the Blaak-station proximity make up for the corporate feel.
