Poznań Shared KitchenRanked guide

Best Hostels with Shared Kitchens in Poznań

Poznań's hostel kitchens are the city's underrated draw — every viable hostel here has one, and unlike Paris or Berlin where the kitchen is a token kettle and a microwave, the Poznań kitchens are properly equipped and people actually use them. Polish supermarket food is genuinely cheap (a full pierogi-and-kefir dinner runs 18-22 PLN) and the hostel cooking culture follows: weekday backpackers cook breakfast, weekend travelers do communal dinners. These are the eight Poznań hostels with kitchens worth booking for.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I spent four days in Poznań split between Opera Hostel and Moon Hostel, and I cooked four out of five dinners. At Opera, I shared a paella-with-Polish-substitutions session with a German engineer and a Brazilian grad student. At Moon, the kitchen was busier and I ended up doing pierogi with two Argentinian backpackers who'd brought down empanada wrappers from Berlin. The Stary Rynek tourist restaurants average 75 PLN per main; my four hostel dinners averaged 14 PLN. The kitchen culture here is the real deal — Polish supermarket food is cheap and good, and Poznań hostels make use of it the way no other Polish city's hostels do.

§ 03 — Tips

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Shared Kitchen in Poznań

Tip Nº 01

Opera Hostel has the best-equipped kitchen in the city — oven, dishwasher, dining table for eight. Reviews consistently flag it.

Tip Nº 02

Carrefour Express and Stokrotka are the supermarkets to know. Stokrotka on Plac Wolności is closest to most central hostels.

Tip Nº 03

Polish supermarket pierogi (frozen) cost 8 PLN a pack and need 5 minutes in boiling water. Best fast hostel meal in town.

Tip Nº 04

Bring a knife and a wooden spoon if you're planning to cook seriously — hostel kitchens in Poznań are well-equipped but utensil drawers thin out by Sunday.

Tip Nº 05

Moon Hostel runs two communal kitchens — pick a different one each night to spread the load and meet different guests.
