§ 01 — Summary

Burgos Guest House (listed on Booking as Burgos Hostel — same property) is a 17th-century townhouse on Rua de Burgos, the narrow lane that runs from Praça do Giraldo down to the Sé cathedral. It's the closest of any Évora property to the main square — under a minute's walk. The interior is dressed in period furniture: a 17th-century lounge, wooden floors, wrought-iron beds. Private rooms only — no dorms — with private bathrooms inside, AC and balconies on the upper-floor rooms. Better described as a small guesthouse than a hostel, but it's the cheapest private-room option this close to Giraldo.

§ 02 — The full story

Burgos Guest House occupies the upper floors of a 17th-century townhouse on Rua de Burgos, a narrow cobbled lane that runs north from Praça do Giraldo to the Sé cathedral. From the front door it's 50 metres to the main square and 200 metres to the cathedral entrance — the most central location of any Évora hostel-grade property.

The building keeps its period bones: a 17th-century lounge with elegant antique furniture, wooden floors throughout, wrought-iron bedframes, high shuttered windows. Reviewer Sandrine called it "a 19th-century townhouse from the inside" — the exterior is plain, but once you step in it's clearly the most architectural property in town. About 12 rooms split across two floors: doubles, twins, triples and one quadruple family room. Every room has a private bathroom inside, AC, hairdryer and free toiletries. Upper-floor rooms have small balconies looking onto Rua de Burgos and over to the cathedral.

The property positions itself as a Hostel on Booking but operates as a small family-run guesthouse. There's a small ground-floor lounge and a tiny back terrace with outdoor furniture, but no shared kitchen and no dorm beds. Continental breakfast is served downstairs in a vaulted breakfast room (€7, optional). The lane outside is cobbled and traffic-free at all hours — Rua de Burgos runs only to a couple of cafés and the cathedral square.

The trade-offs: not a backpacker hostel — there's no shared kitchen, no lounge social scene, no group rates. Best for couples and small groups who want a private room within a 30-second walk of the city's main square, in a building with real architectural character. Single travellers get less value — the smallest private double is €35.

Great location in the centre of Évora. Everything is within walking distance. The place was spotless clean and the beds super comfy. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk through the door it feels like you step into a 17th-century townhouse.

Located in the very centre of town. Quite spacious, clean, oldish but nice room with a window facing the little street below, good double bed, bedside lamps, cable TV channels, quiet AC. OK bathroom with a good shower and large towels.

Location excellent — right by the main square of the old town. The building is a beautifully kept old townhouse, and the host gave us proper restaurant recommendations on arrival.
