§ 01 — Summary

Hidden Gem earns the 'quiet' label the hard way — strict house rules, private bathrooms on every floor, and a Simina Street address that's five minutes from everything but sounds like nothing at night. 9.4 rating, 214 reviews, and a reputation as the anti-party hostel in Stari Grad.

§ 02 — The full story

Hidden Gem is what a Belgrade traveler books after one too many splav-return 4am wake-ups at HostelChe. It's a small (under 25 beds) Dorćol apartment conversion on Simina 9 — a quiet side street parallel to the busier Strahinjića bana, five minutes walk to Kalemegdan and seven to Republic Square.

The defining feature: private bathrooms attached to most dorms, which is unusual for a Belgrade hostel at this price (€21 dorm) and makes the morning routine dramatically less chaotic. Second feature: a genuinely enforced quiet-hours policy (23:00–07:00) that reviewers keep mentioning with relief. Third: the staff is multilingual (English, Serbian, Russian, basic German/French) and actively helpful with the Nikola Tesla airport transfer, bus tickets to Novi Sad, and the Drugstore winter-club address.

For rooftop-bar type travelers, there's a terrace on the top floor with a small honesty-bar stocking Jelen beer, local wine (Vranac), and a rotation of rakija. It's not a party terrace — it's a sundown terrace — but the view over the Dorćol rooftops into Kalemegdan is the best hostel sundown in central Belgrade. Movie nights Tuesday and Thursday on the terrace in summer.

Pros: quiet nights in a central address, private bathrooms at dorm prices, strong staff, genuine 'hidden' feel. Cons: not the place to meet splav companions — you'll have to walk to Strahinjića bana for that. No in-house bar crawl.

The bed was quite comfortable, I had a much needed sleep and was not disturbed at all. The hoody they lent me when I got cold was a nice touch.
