Backpackers Göteborg occupies a classic Linné tenement at Vegagatan 19, two blocks from Järntorget — the square where most of Gothenburg's nightlife happens, and the tram interchange you'll use every day (3, 6, 9 all stop at Järntorget). Slottsskogen park is a five-minute walk; the free Älvsnabben ferry to Hisingen is 15 minutes by tram 3.
This is the social hostel in the city and it earns the label by actually investing in it. Dorms have the backpacker-hotel basics done properly — privacy curtains on every bunk, individual reading lights, a power outlet and USB by each pillow, large lockers with built-in padlocks under the beds. The sauna is on-site and free; the rooftop terrace is small but gets summer sun from late afternoon. Staff run pub crawls from reception, usually Friday and Saturday at 21:00 in high season, and they know which bar on Andra Långgatan to end at.
The kitchen is serviceable rather than brilliant — two hobs, a medium fridge, enough pots for a pasta night but not a dinner party. Breakfast is available for around 85 SEK if you don't feel like shopping at ICA. Bathrooms are shared and kept clean; on busy summer weekends, expect a 10-minute wait in the morning. The building is old, which means character and thin floors — light sleepers, bring earplugs.
