Göteborg Hostel

Göteborg Hostel occupies a renovated mid-rise on Mölndalsvägen, the main artery running south out of central Gothenburg. The location is specific: five minutes on foot to Liseberg amusement park (the obvious reason people book here), two minutes to the Svenska Mässan convention centre, and seven or eight minutes on tram 2, 4 or 5 from Scandinavium back to Centralstationen and the Nordstan shopping centre. If you're coming for Liseberg's Halloween or Christmas seasons, or for a conference at the Mässan, this is the closest reasonable-priced option.

The fit-out is functional rather than boutique. Dorms have been renovated recently — new bunks, individual reading lights, power sockets per bed, lockers accessible without a key (bring a padlock or buy one at reception). Shared bathrooms are tidy and renovated. The kitchen is adequate — two hob stations, full-size fridge — but not the show-stopper you find at Snoozemore or Linnéplatsens. Breakfast (85 SEK) is a hotel-style buffet, which makes sense given the conference-and-theme-park crowd.

Check-in is self-service via a code sent the day before. Reception is staffed intermittently during business hours. The building is set slightly back from Mölndalsvägen so street noise isn't an issue, but the tram line runs until around 00:30 — light sleepers should request rooms on the interior courtyard side. Liseberg's fireworks in summer are loud and close; if that matters to you, book during the off-season.
