Best Hostels with Gardens in Tirana

Tirana's housing stock — a mix of Italian-influenced 1920s villas and Communist-era apartment blocks — means the hostels with proper gardens are almost always converted villas. Six of our eight have one, and they range from chestnut-tree atmospheric (Tirana Backpacker) to orange-tree boutique (Mandarine). The garden becomes the hostel's social hub from April to October, and in winter the indoor common rooms with wood-burning stoves take over.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
Reviewers consistently flag the garden as the daily highlight at these hostels — more than the rooms, more than the included breakfast at some. Mandarine's garden gets the most photo love (the orange-tree shot is the cliché Instagram pull); Tirana Backpacker's gets the most atmospheric review prose because of the hand-painted villa walls and chestnut-tree shade; Milingona's is the most actively used because of the daily 17:00 happy hour anchoring people there.

§ 03 — Tips

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Garden in Tirana

Tip Nº 01

The Mandarine garden is best in the morning (orange-tree shadows on the mosaic tables) and the Tirana Backpacker garden is best at dusk (fire pit, chestnut-tree silhouettes) — same city, two completely different garden moments

Tip Nº 02

Sunscreen note: Tirana's summer sun is intense and most garden tables don't have umbrellas. The shade trees move with the day; ask the staff which corner is shaded at your arrival time

Tip Nº 03

All six gardens have power outlets — most hostels added them for digital nomads in 2023. Mandarine has the most (every table); Pink Bubble has the fewest because the priority is pool, not laptop

Tip Nº 04

The garden hostel breakfast anchor is Bearded Dad and Mandarine (both included). Tirana Backpacker, Milingona, and Golden Rooster have shared kitchens where you cook your own; Pink Bubble has a basic morning espresso bar
