Our Honest Take
From the Hostelpedia team. No BS, just real advice
Monks Bunk is the Tallinn party hostel and it doesn't pretend otherwise. Pick it if night one on the pub crawl is the point of the trip, or if you're a solo traveler who wants company within an hour of checking in. The staff make introductions without being cringe about it, the bar stays open until midnight, and the Old Town address means the good bars are all within seven minutes. Skip it if you came to Tallinn for the quiet medieval walks or an 8am start every morning โ the building is old, the bar is loud, and quiet mornings are not the specialty. Tip: Thursday crawl is smaller and friendlier than Friday; ask at check-in which staff member is leading, the good leaders are worth chasing.
๐ฏ Insider Tips
- 1Crawl runs 21:00 Mon/Wed/Fri โ pre-register at reception, not the bar
- 2Hell Hunt across the street has a proper local Saku crowd post-midnight
- 3Bring earplugs for nights you want sleep โ building is old, bar is loud
- 4Karaoke starts Tuesday 22:00 and gets genuinely rowdy after the Latvians arrive

๐ The Full Story
The Monks Bunk is the unapologetic party hostel in Tallinn, and it's been doing this job for long enough that it's become an institution on the Baltic backpacker circuit. The building sits on Lai 22, a two-minute walk from Raekoja plats and in the heart of the Old Town's nightlife triangle (Lai, Pikk, Rรผรผtli). A ground-floor bar doubles as the hostel lobby, which means you check in through a crowd of travelers already on their first beer.
The in-house bar crawl runs three nights a week from 21:00: you meet in the bar, do three shots, then walk to Hell Hunt, Porgu, Valli baar and a club. It costs โฌ10-15 extra depending on the promo and the groups average fifteen to thirty travelers on a summer weekend. Karaoke nights and movie nights fill the off-crawl days. The lounge has board games and a projector, and the outdoor picnic area sees beer-and-barbecue action from May to September.
Dorms are honest: curtains between bunks, in-room lockers, shared hallway bathrooms. The building is old and the floorboards creak โ you can hear the bar below until the bar closes around midnight, which reviewers consistently call out as both the feature and the bug. If you're here for silence, pick Viru Backpackers four blocks south. If you're here to meet people fast, this is the one.

โThe clean room, comfortable bed and friendly staff members. Did the bar crawl on night one and made friends with three solo travelers who I ended up doing the Helsinki ferry with the next day. That's this hostel.โ

โThe staff were really amazing, friendly and helpful. The facilities were great, good beds. The pub crawl was the best value of my Baltics trip, genuinely. Loud at night โ expected and welcomed.โ

โI had a very pleasant stay here. The staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming. The location is perfect for walking everywhere in the Old Town. Came back on night two for the karaoke.โ

โLocation, helpful staff. The in-house bar is the selling point โ I met half of my eventual travel group there on night one. Room was basic but acceptable for the price. Bring earplugs if you want a quiet morning.โ
