Best Hostels with a Rooftop Bar or Terrace in Nuremberg

Two Nuremberg hostels open the roof in summer — proper outdoor decks with city-wall or castle views, where guests bring their own bottle from the kitchen and watch the medieval skyline soften at 21:30. The number is small. The quality is unusually good.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
Five Reasons' roof terrace doesn't show up in their photos and the staff don't push it — I asked twice because I'd read it existed. Reception walked me up: a small deck above the third floor, six cafe-style chairs, a low wall, and the medieval city wall stretching east towards the Königstor. Two other guests were up there with kitchen-bought beers. We watched the sun drop behind the roofs and somebody's playlist played quietly. The Hauptmarkt-restaurant rooftop charges €9 for the same view; the hostel rooftop charges €0.

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Rooftop Bar in Nuremberg

Tip Nº 01

Five Reasons' rooftop opens around mid-May and closes early October — ask reception specifically, the staff doesn't volunteer the information

Tip Nº 02

BYO for Five Reasons' roof: buy bottles from the ground-floor café-bar (cheaper than supermarket rates after 19:00) and walk them up

Tip Nº 03

Jugendherberge's terrace serves drinks until 22:00 in summer; the surrounding Burgviertel is also at its quietest from 21:00 onwards once day-trippers leave

Tip Nº 04

Sunset hour: 21:30 in mid-summer, 19:00 in October — set an alarm if you're staying up late, the light over the medieval roofs is the photo

Tip Nº 05

The Tiergärtnertorplatz café rooftops (Wanderer, Café Kaffeehaus) are the closest non-hostel rooftop options — €5-7 a beer, more atmospheric tables, public access
