Best Hostels with Rooftop Bars in Belgrade

Belgrade isn't a rooftop city by Madrid or Lisbon standards — most Stari Grad buildings are 5–6 stories and rarely have usable roofs. But six of our shortlisted hostels (San Art's river deck, Hidden Gem's Dorćol sundown terrace, El Diablo's pre-splav pre-game, HostelChe's Kralja Petra rooftop, Karavan Inn's Vračar bar, Horse Monument's National Museum terrace) do have real outdoor drinking spaces with views worth a shot of rakija.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
The rooftop-bar Belgrade calculus: sundown is between 18:30 (winter) and 21:00 (midsummer). A hostel terrace that you can use for the 90 minutes around sundown is worth more than a gym, sauna, or breakfast buffet. Six of our eight hostels have a usable rooftop or terrace; two (NapPARK and Balkan Soul's back terrace) have a terrace that's more courtyard-style. Pick by the view you want — Sava (San Art, Balkan Soul back deck), Stari Grad (HostelChe, Horse Monument, Hidden Gem), or residential quiet (Karavan Inn, El Diablo).

Our Top 6 Picks

Hostel El Diablo
01
9.5145 reviews19/night

Hostel El Diablo

El Diablo is the homey-party hostel on Strahinjića bana — small enough to feel like an apartment, social enough that reviewers use the phrase 'second home' without irony. 9.5 rating, 145 reviews, and a pub crawl that leaves from reception at 22:00.

  • Nightly pub crawl from reception (€10)
  • Strahinjića bana address — Dorćol bar strip
  • Rakija-stocked common room
  • Small (<30 beds), genuinely social
Hidden Gem Hostel
02
9.4214 reviews21/night

Hidden Gem Hostel

Hidden Gem earns the 'quiet' label the hard way — strict house rules, private bathrooms on every floor, and a Simina Street address that's five minutes from everything but sounds like nothing at night. 9.4 rating, 214 reviews, and a reputation as the anti-party hostel in Stari Grad.

  • Private bathrooms in most dorms
  • Enforced 23:00 quiet hours
  • Rooftop terrace with honesty-bar
  • Multilingual staff (EN/SR/RU/DE)
The Horse Monument Hostel
03
9.4142 reviews20/night

The Horse Monument Hostel

The Horse Monument Hostel takes its name literally — the Prince Mihailo statue (the 'horse monument' on Republic Square) is 30 seconds out the front door, and so is every central-Belgrade sight you'd want. Tiny (under 15 beds), owner-run, 9.4 rated with a quirky amenity sheet including an actual bathtub.

  • Next door to the National Museum
  • Under 15 beds, owner-run
  • Bathtub available for guests
  • Top-floor Republic Square terrace
San Art Floating Hostel
04
9.3556 reviews24/night

San Art Floating Hostel

San Art is a literal boat — a floating hostel moored on the Sava at Ušće, 5 minutes walk from the Novi Beograd splavovi strip and a short bus ride from Republic Square. 9.3 from 556 reviews, and the only Belgrade hostel where your 'rooftop' is a river deck.

  • Moored on the Sava at Ušće
  • 5-min walk to the splavovi strip
  • Breakfast included (served on deck)
  • Weekly Brutalism walking tour
Hostel Karavan Inn
05
9.31,023 reviews18/night

Hostel Karavan Inn

Karavan Inn is Belgrade's most-reviewed hostel with 1,023 ratings averaging 9.3 — the big-sample endorsement. It sits on Bulevar kralja Aleksandra in Vračar, which means you're on the tram line to Stari Grad and surrounded by the cheap-eats student scene that funds Belgrade nightlife.

  • Most-reviewed hostel in Belgrade
  • Vračar student boulevard address
  • Large guest kitchen (real social hub)
  • Wed/Sat pub crawl (€8)
HostelChe Hostel
06
9.0557 reviews19/night

HostelChe Hostel

HostelChe sits directly above Kafana Sal on Kralja Petra — the single most-walked pedestrian diagonal in the Old Town. 9.0 from 557 reviews, a proper rooftop, nightly walking tour or pub crawl depending on the day, and one of the better value-to-location ratios in Belgrade at €19.

  • Above Kafana Sal bar
  • Real rooftop with seating
  • Pub crawl Mon/Wed/Fri (€10)
  • Free Sun/Thu walking tour

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Rooftop Bar in Belgrade

Tip Nº 01

Hidden Gem's honesty-bar system means you pay in advance in a jar — bring small bills. Jelen €2, Vranac €3, rakija shot €1.50. It's not a scam; just bring change.

Tip Nº 02

HostelChe's rooftop closes at 23:00 sharp because of residential neighbors — plan your sundown drink at 20:00, not 22:30. In summer there's still an hour of sunset.

Tip Nº 03

San Art's river deck in summer is the best free meal in our shortlist — breakfast is included and served on the deck with Kalemegdan views. Skip the included coffee and walk 3 min to the Novi Beograd side café for real espresso.

Tip Nº 04

For the Belgrade classic: sundown rakija not at any hostel rooftop, but on the Kalemegdan fortress walls. Buy a bottle of Klekovača (juniper) or Šljivovica (plum) at the kiosk on Knez Mihailova, walk 8 min to the fortress, find a wall. Free.
