Dropped the bag, walked downstairs to the sun-deck, and within ten minutes I was floating on my back in the bay watching a cruise ship reverse out of the harbor against a backdrop of vertical mountain. The deck's stone steps lead directly into chest-deep water — no wading, no sand. Two German backpackers had set up with books and Vranac glasses; an Estonian solo traveler was reading on the patio. By 6pm the deck was the social hub: maybe twelve people, half from Pupa, four from 4U next door, three from Centrum who'd walked over. Nina brought out the wood-fire for the BBQ.
