Best Salzburg Hostels with Shared Kitchens

Three Salzburg hostels run shared kitchens that actually work for self-caterers — myNext - Riverside in Lehen with the SPAR a 4-min walk away, Kolpinghaus in Itzling (summer-only) with hotel-grade dishes and stove, and The Keep Eco Rooms on Schwarzstraße with a small but properly stocked space. The pattern: Salzburg's central restaurant prices push backpackers toward grocery cooking, and these three are where it's actually feasible without queuing for a single hot plate.

§ 01 — Traveler's take
I stayed at myNext - Riverside for 3 nights in October 2025 and cooked dinner twice. SPAR Lehen at 4 min walk did proper Wiener Schnitzel cuts at €4.50, fresh dark bread at €1.80, and a bottle of Grüner Veltliner at €5.99. Kitchen had functional stove, real pans, dishes — better equipped than half the Airbnbs I've stayed in. Made schnitzel-and-rosti at home for €8 a head, walked to Augustiner Bräu Mülln 5 min later for a stein. Total dinner cost €13. The Old Town equivalent would have been €30+. Pattern repeats at Kolpinghaus (June-Sept only) with breakfast included, and at The Keep with the small but well-equipped kitchen.

Our Top 3 Picks

myNext - Riverside Hotel Salzburg

myNext - Riverside Hotel Salzburg is the quietest budget option on the river — a converted student dorm in Lehen, 12 min from the Hauptbahnhof and a 20 min Salzach walk to the Old Town. 7.9 over 1,843 reviews, hotel-grade private rooms with private bathrooms from €38, free guest mobility ticket, and the calm-and-clean profile YoHo can't match.

  • Riverside location in Lehen — 12 min walk to Hauptbahnhof, 18 min along the Salzach to Old Town
  • Free Salzburg Card mobility ticket on check-in (covers all city buses) — undervalued perk
  • Hotel-grade private rooms with private bathrooms from €38 — most rooms are not dorms
  • 5 min walk to Augustiner Bräu Mülln, the must-do Salzburg monastery beer hall
Kolpinghaus Salzburg - SommerHOSTEL

Kolpinghaus Salzburg - SommerHOSTEL

Kolpinghaus is a Catholic-foundation student hall that opens its rooms to travelers as the SommerHOSTEL from late June to early September. Riverside Itzling location, hotel-grade private rooms with TV and shower, free parking, and the same proper Austrian breakfast you'd pay €15 for at a hotel — for €35 a night during the months when central Salzburg triples its prices.

  • Summer-only opening (June 25 – Sept 5) — hotel-grade rooms at hostel prices during Salzburg Festival
  • Free proper Austrian breakfast included in every rate (eggs, cold cuts, four breads, fruit)
  • Free parking for cars and motorhomes — rare for a near-central Salzburg property
  • Riverside Itzling location — 12 min walk to Hauptbahnhof, 22 min along Salzach to Old Town
The Keep Eco Rooms

7.4198 reviews48/night

The Keep Eco Rooms

The Keep Eco Rooms is the small-and-thoughtful Salzburg pick — a 14-room eco-conscious budget hotel-hostel hybrid on Schwarzstraße, 7 min walk from Mirabell and 9 from Hauptbahnhof, with self-check-in, vegan breakfast options, a real shared kitchen, and the kind of design details (old-wallpaper feature walls, vintage armchairs) you don't find at YoHo. 7.4 over 198 reviews and growing.

  • Riverside Schwarzstraße address — 7 min walk to Mirabell, 9 min to Hauptbahnhof, prettiest north-bank location
  • Eco-conscious ethos: vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free breakfast options in a city where they're hard to find
  • Self check-in via keypad codes (24h access) — works for late arrivals and early departures
  • 14 rooms total — quiet shared bathrooms with low floor traffic, low-key atmosphere
§ 03 — Tips

Tips for Choosing a Hostel with Shared Kitchen in Salzburg

Tip Nº 01

SPAR Lehen on Strubergasse (4 min from myNext) is the best of the three nearby SPARs for ready-to-cook items: pre-marinated schnitzel cuts €4-6, fresh sourdough rolls €1.20, deli counter for ham, a proper cheese case. Open Mon-Sat 7-19 h, closed Sundays.

Tip Nº 02

All three hostel kitchens have basic oils, salt and pepper — but bring or buy a small bottle of olive oil and some butter. SPAR's smallest cooking-oil bottle is 250 ml €1.80, butter 250g €2.40. Lasts the full stay.

Tip Nº 03

Kolpinghaus's kitchen is shared with the breakfast-room area and is busiest 7-9 am. Cook dinner there 18-21 h instead — you'll have the space to yourself.

Tip Nº 04

The Keep's kitchen is small (one stove, one fridge) — coordinate with the other 14 guests in the building if you're cooking 19-21 h. The self check-in app has a guest WhatsApp group for exactly this.
