“I travelled to Pula expecting Croatia-style bar crawls and got something better: dinner at RICARDO with 10 strangers, all of whom I had Whatsapp numbers from by 23:00, and three of whom I met for breakfast in the Old Town the next morning. The hostel-driven event format works in a city this size: no need to herd people through a 6-bar tour because by the time you've shared dinner with them, you're friends. Pula is too small for crawls. It's just right for slow conversations.”

Independent owner-run hostel on Trščanska, 500m from the Roman Arena and a 5-minute walk from the bus station and ferry terminal. Shared kitchen, sun patio, curtain-bunks in the dorms. The friendly-owner Old Town pick for backpackers landing late off the bus.
RICARDO's grilled fish dinner: 18 EUR, ordered 24h ahead at reception. Sells out 2-3 nights a week in July-August. Worth planning around.
Sol Garden's patio hour is 19:00 to 21:00. Bring a beer from the Konzum across the street (3 min walk) and start a conversation at the long table. Don't show up at 22:00 expecting people: most have left for Forum.
Antique's kitchen at 19:00 is the social anchor. Cook something with 4 burners going, you'll meet people. Lounge fills up after 22:00 when people come back from Forum.
